In today’s Four on Friday, we chat with Freya Brier, senior vice president and general counsel at Eddie Bauer. In this interview, Brier, who lives in Seattle, discusses her responsibilities with the retailer, provides some great tips for visitors to the Emerald City and passes along her favorite bit of advice.
Many thanks to Freya for her time.
HS: What are your responsibilities at Eddie Bauer?
Brier: My title is senior vice president and general counsel. I oversee loss prevention (field and corporate), risk management/insurance programs and am responsible for all legal matters, including contract and lease reviews/negotiation, litigation, intellectual property, etc.
HS: What is the most rewarding part of your job?
Brier: Knowing that I’ve helped my clients get a better outcome as a result of my participation. I particularly enjoy working on large trademark projects where I then see my work on products in stores.
HS: For someone visiting the Seattle area for the first time, what are the things they simply must do while they're in town?
Brier: Eat the blackened halibut sandwich at the Market Grill in Pike Place Market, and check out the Gum Wall, the first Starbucks and watch the fishmongers throw the fish. Take the ferry over to Bainbridge Island to art gallery hop and come back at sunset when the sun is setting behind the Seattle skyline. Take in a concert and wine tastings at Chateau St. Michelle’s vineyards in Woodinville.
HS: Favorite bit of advice?
Brier: Know what you don’t know — be willing to admit you don’t know something and seek advice!
